Why Melody Makers for kids

Melody Makers has been teaching children in Dubai since 1997. Many of the kids who started with us in our first decade now bring their own children to the same studio. That kind of generational continuity is rare in this city, and it is the single best signal a parent can look for when choosing a music school.

• Faculty trained to teach young learners. Teaching a 5 year old piano is a completely different skill from performing piano. Our team is led by Carah Magadan, Head of Faculty since 2011, and the dance and art programmes are led by Akshay Kumar and Madhusudhan P.K. respectively.
• Small groups and private lessons. Younger kids learn in groups of 2 to 4 where the social momentum keeps them engaged. From age 9 or 10, most students move into private 1:1 lessons as the technique demands more individual attention.
• Trinity exam pathway from age 5. Registered Trinity College London Exam Centre. Kids can sit graded exams from Initial level upward at the same studio they learn in, no unfamiliar venue, no extra exam-day stress.
• In-house recitals and exhibitions. Performance is where confidence is built. Our termly recitals, student concerts and art exhibitions give every child the chance to play in front of a real audience, regardless of grade.
• Sibling and multi-activity discount. Enrol two children, or one child in two activities (music plus dance, music plus art), and the discount applies automatically.
• Established 1997. Parents who learned to play here in the late 90s and 2000s now bring in their own kids. Same building, same approach, several of the same teachers.
• Broad disciplines under one roof. Piano, keyboard, guitar, drums, violin, vocals, classical and Western dance, drawing, painting and drama. If your child wants to switch instruments, or add a second activity, they do not have to switch schools.
• After-school and weekend slots. Weekday timings 4:30pm to 8:30pm cover the after-school window for most Dubai schools. Saturday morning and evening slots are available for families who prefer to keep weekday afternoons free.

What progress looks like for a child

Parents usually see real progress within 3 months: reading basic notation, playing short pieces, sitting with better posture, asking to practise on their own. By 6 months, most kids can perform a small piece at our termly recital. Trinity Initial or Grade 1 is typically achievable within 12 to 18 months of consistent weekly lessons and short daily practice.

For ages 5 to 8, 10 to 15 minutes of focused practice per day is plenty. For ages 9 to 12, 20 to 30 minutes. Teens working towards Grade 5 and above benefit from 30 to 60 minutes daily. Consistency beats length: 10 minutes every day is far more effective than an hour on Saturday.

Every class supports students from approximately age 5 to 6 upward (earlier for voice, movement and art). Trial lessons are free.
