What is Harp?
The harp is a classical stringed instrument played with the fingers, available in lever (Celtic) and pedal (concert) forms. Students learn hand position, plucking technique, music reading on two clefs, and graded repertoire. Our Harp classes in Dubai are designed for ages 8+, online or at our Karama studio with instruments provided in person.
A child who learns to play music for two years under a real teacher gains more than musical skill, they develop the patience to fail, the discipline to practise, and the confidence to perform. Those traits travel with them into every classroom and career they touch later.

Why learn Harp in 2026?
Music education builds skills that transfer everywhere, focus, discipline, working memory, emotional regulation, and confidence on stage. A 30-year longitudinal study from the University of Vermont (Hudziak et al., 2014) found that children who studied a musical instrument showed accelerated cortical development in regions linked to memory and motor skills. Harp students at Melody Makers also progress through internationally recognised Trinity College London grades, giving them an exam pathway that universities and conservatories accept worldwide.
In a world increasingly shaped by AI and screens, music remains a uniquely human craft. Whether your goal is graded exams, college applications (music supplements help in competitive admissions), a performance career, or simply the joy of playing well, learning harp now compounds for the rest of your life.
What you will learn in Harp classes
- Foundational technique, posture and tone production for harp
- Reading music notation, sight-reading, ear training and rhythm
- Performance practice, solo and ensemble, with stage confidence
- Trinity / ABRSM / ABGMVM grade preparation where applicable
- Personalised repertoire across classical, contemporary, film and devotional
- Practice routines that build long-term progress without burnout
